These workshops were designed to compliment The Gizmo which toured to the Goldfields Arts Centre. Kids were guided through the production of making their own zany gizmo instrument from recycled objects, which was then played as part of a ‘Gizmorchestra' ensemble.
Local musician and creative producer Ruben Wills explained the fundamental concepts of music, and how various instruments worked to produce their unique sounds. Some potential designs were examined initially, and then the opportunity was given to make their own. Everyone enjoyed being creative with the recycled objects to create some great results. Once the instruments were constructed, the participants were shown how a piece of music is structured, and how their instrument could be used to play with the others in a group.
Everyone did a fantastic job in manufacturing a unique instrument, where they had to think carefully and critically about the type and quality of sound they wanted to produce.
