This project utilised a group of empty CBD spaces to create a pop-up entertainment precinct following the 2017 Saint Barbara's Parade, 3 December 2017. Sundowner Shows aimed to provide a platform for locally produced shows while value adding Saint Barbaras Festival with post-parade entertainment.
Despite extensive advertising, involvement with the Parade’s committee and their promotion, this project suffered the consequence of deeply habitual behaviour culminated over the previous year’ Parades. What was set to be a vibrant, enlivened city centre was in reality an altogether vacant streetscape devoid of patrons.
Whilst this project generated disheartening patron numbers, it allowed for the development of three original show formats produced by Kalgoorlie-Boulder locals, and the showcase of Aboriginal cuisine and artefacts. Overall the project was a powerful learning experience for our team, and whilst posing a significant risk, provided the opportunity to form and grow relationships with a number of creative practitioners.
